This website was created to provide links to websites for information
about mesothelioma for victims and their families and friends. From
our past experience we know that you can spend a tremendous amount of time
searching the internet for information. However,we also know that you
want information and answers FAST to the how, when and where questions.
Those contributing to the information in this site are either
victims themselves or their spouses are. We are sharing this information
to make it easier for newly diagnosed individuals to find the information
they need quickly. Information that will help them to understand their
disease and to research what options are available to them. Below is a brief summation of
the path that mesothelioma has taken some of us.
Pat - December 2007
Mike & Pat
Mike was disagnosed with malignant mesothelioma in February, 2006. Our family
doctor thought that he had pneumonia until a chest x-ray was taken. There was
significant fluid in his left pleural sac. His only symptoms were a dry
cough and shortness of breath when walking. We first consulted Rochester
General Hospital and then proceeded to Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New
York City for a second opinion. Sloan-Kettering gave us the hope that
we needed. Mike received three rounds of chemo (Alimta and Cisplatin)
at Rochester General which stabelized the cancer and then we went to
Sloan-Kettering for surgery in mid-June. The surgery was an extra-pleural
pneumonectomy and went very well. Surgery was followed by 27 rounds of
radiation at the Wilmont Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital. The
radiation started in mid-August and finished the end of September. We went
back to Sloan-Kettering in mid-November for a check-up. A CT Scan at
that time showed that he was cancer free. Shortly after returning home
Mike started to not feel well and testing at Rochester General showed
that the cancer had re-ocurred in the right side of his chest and his
abdomen. Mike passed away on December 20, 2006.
